Hardware Pioneers has teamed up with Anglia Components and STMicroelectronics to help you build and program your own UAV using connectivity and MEMS technology.
In recent years, drones have become an extremely popular way of capturing data from places that may be too dangerous, remote or expensive for people to access. They are increasingly being used to support IoT projects in a whole host of end market sectors, from monitoring and surveying in agriculture, to assessing pipeline conditions for oil and gas.

This workshop will provide you with a working knowledge of the STMicroelectronics STEVAL-DRONE01 mini-drone kit, which will include the STM32 Cortex M-series Microcontroller, MEMS gyroscope, battery management and Bluetooth Low Energy solutions. Updates on the latest connectivity, motor control and MEMs products will also be included in the workshop.
The STEVAL-DRONE01 mini drone kit features the high performance STEVAL-FCU001V1 flight controller unit, as well as the motors, propellers, plastic frame and battery.

The flight controller unit runs the firmware  to control the speed of each connected motor and to stabilise the drone. To achieve this, the STM32F4 microcontroller hosted on the board analyses data from the accelerometer and gyroscope sensors  to provide highly accurate stability and control.
Participants will take home a free STEVAL-DRONE01 kit.

What you'll learn
Introduction to STMicroelectronics IoT solutions.
Building and setting up the STEVAL-DRONE01.
Technical guidance on the flight controller unit running the firmware to control the speed of each connected motor and stabilise the drone.
Understanding the accompanying Bluetooth technology capable of turning a smartphone running a dedicated App into a remote control unit.

The STEVAL-FCU001V1 is designed to support quadcopter drone designers. A complete sample FW project allows the designer to begin flying small and medium size quadcopters immediately and evaluate the performance of the IMU sensors under real flight conditions.
How to develop with the STM32WB
Based on an Arm® Cortex®‐M4 core running at 64 MHz (application processor) and an Arm® Cortex®‐M0+ core at 32 MHz (network processor), STM32WB55 microcontrollers support Bluetooth™ 5 and IEEE 802.15.4 wireless standards.
